Italian Meatball Sliders

IMG_7694This recipe contains several of my husband’s favorite components: sliders, italian meatballs, and marinara. A fun and creative slider twist, this pairs easily with homemade fries, potato wedges, salad or any other side that you may have had leftover from earlier in the week.

These would also be great for a party appetizer! You could very easily add mozzarella to make these more of a “cheeseburger”. I chose to grill these on our panini press, but you could also bake, or pan prepare these sliders.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 minced garlic cloves
  • 3 finely diced shallots
  • 1/4 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces lean ground beef
  • 8 ounces mild italian sausage
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 2 small tomatoes, sliced
  • 12 large basil leaves
  • 12 slider buns

DirectionsIMG_7689

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over low heat.
  2. Add garlic and shallots to pan – cooking until mixture is softened, careful not to over brown the garlic
  3. Combine shallot mixture, ricotta, spices, meat, egg and breadcrumbs in a medium bowl.
  4. Shape mixture into 12 slider patties, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Grill sliders for 2-3 minutes, flipping once, until desired temperature is achieved.
  6. Top each bun with 1 tablespoon marinara sauce, tomato slice, and basil leaves to complete sliders.
